Bridgwater and Albion's National Three South West game at Exmouth has been called off today because of the weather.

The frost has also claimed the Second and Third XV games.

THIRTEEN-MAN DIRTRACKERS BATTLE MANFULLY AT PLAIN POND

WIVELISCOMBE II 34  BRIDGWATER & ALBION ATHELETIC 5

Albion’s Dirtrackers’ beleaguered season continued with a two-man shortage at Wiveliscombe on Saturday.  The side was torn apart by demands from the United XV and other sundry unavailabilities or disappearances as the case may be.  Nevertheless, the 13 men who travelled battled superbly and all had their moments in a game played in ideal overhead conditions but on a very sticky and treacherous surface.

Player Presentation Evening

B&A RFC 22 - Oxford Quins 36 (28/01/12)

Match report by Tony Pomeroy

The quality of rugby on offer did not impress the watching Bridgwater & Albion Former Players, who sponsored the game. In perfect conditions, the scoreline would suggest a good game but this was far from the case as errors abounded all over the field.
Apart from losing their first line-out, the home pack had a good day in the set pieces, often putting the visitors under pressure in the scrummage. They also ran well with the ball in hand as was evidenced by two excellent tries from forwards.  However, they have to learn to curb backchat to the referee. Twice, Bridgwater penalties were reversed for adverse comments to the referee and they have to learn that referees will not tolerate perceived criticism on the field from players, however justified the players think they are.

Bridgwater & Albion United 59 v Yatton 17

Match Report by Lindsay Carver

Bridgwater second string returned to winning ways with a 9 try demolition of lowly Yatton at Bath Road on Saturday. Taking advantage of the howling gale that blew down the pitch United were able to dominate territorially and Yatton's defence had no answer to some direct running from the backs.

The latest from Kevin Innalls (16/01/2012)

Despite losing out to Old Patesians in his first home game in charge acting head coach Kevin Innalls was in upbeat mood.

"Of course I'm disappointed that we lost out against Old Pats, but a lot of positive things came out of the game and we were in it and competing right up until the end, which you have to be to have any chance of winning."

Kevin went on: "It was good to see a lot of things that we had worked on in training, just a slightly different style of play, coming to fruition on Saturday. Our defence was a lot better. Our running was better and we were
taking the ball at a bit of pace. We have just got to get out on the training pitch, keep working hard and make sure we finish off our opportunities."

Kevin reflects (24/01/2012)

Kevin Innalls saw his team defeated for the third time since taking over the reins at Bath Road.

Reflecting on the game at Weston super Mare on Saturday, the head coach said: “Of course it was disappointing to lose, because we wanted a bit more out of the game than we got, but I think we caught Weston on bit of a rebound after a few poor results. This was a local derby and they came out with all guns blazing.”

“We made far too many errors and had two yellow cards so we were down to 14 men for 20 minutes of the game, which we can’t afford to do. We were put under pressure by their defence and made too many mistakes.”

Talking about what his plans for the two sessions ahead of Saturday’s big home game against Oxford Harlequins, Kevin said: “This week we have got a lot of work to do in our training sessions. We need to work on our continuity and ball retention, get defence a little bit tighter again because we slipped off a few tackles.”

Weston-super-Mare 30 - B&A RFC 8 (21/01/12)

Match report by Tony Pomeroy

Weston dominated this local derby in possession and territory.  Bridgwater found it difficult to win ball, losing half a dozen of their line-out throws and at least a couple of scrums.

Bridgwater brought back Matt Hastie, Nick Spellissy and Nick Francis following their recovery from injury with Gavin Knight, Jeremy Darley, now returned to University studies, and Garryn Basson dropping out.

In the first minutes of the game, both sides played the expansive game, looking for a quick score. It was the home side first on the scoreboard when, following a Bridgwater infringement at a tackle, home centre James MacKay kicked a routine 23m penalty.

A Bridgwater scrum feed on half way was stolen by the home side and, following an excellent move, winger James Arnold scored a very good try in the corner. Mackay showed why he is one of the top kickers in the league by converting from the touchline.

The Head Coach reflects (01/02/2012)

Bridgwater and Albion head coach Kevin Innalls was left feeling disappointed and frustrated after his team had lost at home to Oxford Harlequins, the team immediately above them on Saturday.

Reflecting on the game Kevin said: "The game against Oxford Harlequins was one of the matches that we had targeted to win, to stand a chance staying up so I am very disappointed with the result."

Midsomer Norton 2nd XV 19 - 27 BARFC 2nd XV 27

Bridgwater 2s put in a strong and determined display of rugby against an organised Norton Team. Bridgwater started a bit nervy with some scrappy rugby. Getting points on the board settled the nerves and allowed the team to start playing to their capability.

Two tries came from well worked moves finished off by the winger Sturdy who was impressive all game. Steward added to the points tally with a penalty before half time.

U14's - High Spirits See Albion Through

Bridgwater & Albion U14’s are through to the next round of the county cup, after beating Hornets U14’s 36-15.

To begin off with, spectators did not see this coming as Hornets started strongly. Their rucking was better and the hands were out classing the Bridgwater defence. Within 5 minutes Bridgy found themselves behind, 5-0. With Hornets dominating for the first 15 minutes and Albion rarely getting out their 22, things looked a bit worrying.

However, the Bridgwater last year may have rolled over and died, but not today. Albion knew if they played with self-belief and confidence they were capable. Sure enough Albion’s confidence slowly started to grow, rucking, passing and scrummaging superbly. Eventually Albion’s hard worked paid off with a converted try making it 7-5.
