B&A RFC 21 - 12 Brixham 21/08/10
Match Report by Tony Pomeroy
Bridgwater & Albion gave themselves some encouragement with this win over Brixham. Yes, Brixham will be playing one division lower than Albion when the leagues start but this was Bridgwater’s first victory since mid December last year and was very welcome. The first XV game was preceded by the 2nd XV’s in a game that started a hour late as Brixham had been badly delayed on the M5. The visitors were too strong for the Bridgwater 2nd XV which was based around last season’s Colts XV and came out winners 24-12.

Bridgwater and Albion captain already looking forward to the new season
The new rugby season may still be more than two months away but for Steve Hunt who has been appointed as Bridgwater and Albion captain for 2010-11 the campaign just can’t come soon enough.
Hunt, who is ‘Bridgy’ through and through, has endured a rough ride since taking over the reins at College Way mid way through last season following the departure of skipper when Ben Purcell and a number of the other senior players at the club.
However despite the difficulties that he inherited Hunt managed to retain team morale create a strong team ethic among the players who remained, as well as helping to oversee the introduction of a number of very promising youngsters into the side.

Huge Thanks to the 'Friends of B&A'

Article by Chairman - Steve Smith
The Club were, as always, very grateful for the ‘Friends’ for another great lunch event on Saturday. Even in these stringent times the ‘Friends’ filled the Sedgemoor suite with people who were treated to great food, entertained by a great comedian and enjoyed a great social event!

Albion's Delight at Roly's Cap
One of Bridgwater & Albion’s most loyal players James “Roly” Bryant is due to make his 250th 1st XV appearance for Bridgwater & Albion in their National 2 South league match at Shelford on 27 February. This is a commendable achievement for the mainly tight head prop in these days of clubs experiencing ever changing personnel from season to season, yet Roly has ridden all of the storms to notch up this significant landmark in his 11th senior season with the club.

The Captain's Log - some words from Steve Hunt
Bridgy skipper Steve Hunt was clearly delighted by the way that his new look team performed against Brixham on Saturday to give the boys a victory to celebrate.
Talking about the game Steve said: “The result is a bit of a shock to me and during the game I kept on looking up at the scoreboard and saw that we had more points- which I am not used to, but it was great to get a win under our belts and will give us some good confidence going forward.”

B&A RFC 17 - 47 Clifton
Match report by Tony Pomeroy
In an entertaining final home game for Bridgwater played in conditions more akin to cricket, visitors, Clifton, took all the spoils with a dominating display of rugby. Prompted by former Bridgwater stalwart, Matt Britton at scrum half, Clifton looked a very slick outfit and at times displayed exhilarating handling skills and support play. Scoring seven tries, Clifton were never in danger of losing the game but Bridgwater’s youngsters, with three tries also played their part, just failing to gain a four try bonus point but drawing plaudits from even the Clifton faithful. The home pack won all their own set piece ball and even stole an opposition line-out in the second half. The backs looked sharp but, possibly due to all the Clifton pressure, more than usual first up tackles were missed. However, the line kicking was generally good as was the intention to play open rugby by occasionally running the ball from deep in their own 22.

Barnes 56 - 24 B&A RFC
Match report by Andy Tudhope
An entertaining encounter ended with Barnes winning 56-24 against Bridgwater & Albion. Both teams played open rugby that was a joy to watch on a beautiful spring afternoon. The score would have been a lot closed if B&A have capitalised on numerous chances with the ball being dropped or thrown away with the line begging.

WSM III 13 - 12 Dirt-trackers
Match report by Mike Berry
Dirt trackers rue missed chances as promotion oppurtunities peter out
Albion’s Dirt-Trackers travelled to Weston-Super-Mare on Saturday intent on the season’s double, having beaten the home side 33-10 in the opening match of the season. They also hoped to clinch promotion to Somerset One – they needed to win to hold off Wellington II surge. Alas it was not to be with Albion missing several chances whilst Weston-Super-Mare seemed transformed in the second half when their gnarled and ageing pack was replaced by a lot more dynamism. This enabled Weston to obtain more of the ball and secure better positions from which they kicked two vital second half penalties – the only scores of the half.
