B&ARFC U15 31 - 14 IVEL BARBARIANS

Match report by Ray Dickinson
All the hard work and coaches patience came together on Sunday when after just 15 minutes Albion were 17 points to the good
and playing like demons, rarely being outside of their oponents 22.

From the kick off Ivel knocked on and a reultant advantage saw Bridgwater win posession in the backs where Centre Charlie Sturdy
ran around the defence from 40 meteres to give eventual man of the match Fly Half Harry Roles a simple conversion. Five minutes and more relentless pressure Albion were again on the scoreboard this time through 2nd row George Burtenshaw who crashed through two tackles to add five points.  The conversion was narrowly missed.

Ivel U15 17 - 5 Bridgwater & Albion U15

Match report by Ray Dickinson

On a very cold wet and windy day at Yeovil Albion should have won this game, given their possession and territorial advantage.  Why they did not was because they failed to control the ball in the rucks and loose ball was invariably picked up by the oposition.

Ivel scored right from the kick off when they took the ball cleanly just in their 22 and ran through a raft of missed tackles to score within about 20 seconds!  At least this had the effect of waking up Bridgwater who dominated play for most of the half, but lacked the nous to create scoring oportunities.

Burnham on Sea Under 15’s  V  Bridgwater and Albion Under 15’s

Result 15 – 10

A hard fought match was always going to be the order of the day, as the two teams whenever they have met in previous age groups have always shown spirit and determination.

Fortunately the heavy showers stopped prior to kick off, yet the strong wind should have been used to better advantage to assist Bridgwater in the first half. Harry Rolls, fly half kicked a penalty mid way through the first half. Against the wind, Burnham fought back and with resilience they found a rare chink in the Bridgwater defence and managed to score an unconverted try on the stroke of half time.

There was an expectation around the ground that the strong wind would favour Burnham in the second half. Dan Clarke on the wing caught an awkward high ball, his spirited run down the left flank found the Centre Charlie Sturdy who with skill and determination outpaced the opposition to score between the posts. Harry Rolls converted.

Taunton U15's 29 - 3 BARFC U15's

Match report by Mike McGeown

Having suffered a 50-odd point to nil drubbing when the two teams met earlier in the season, the Bridgwater U 15s team were not overly optimistic or confident about Sunday’s fixture which had to be transferred to Kings College as Taunton’s own pitches were waterlogged.

As it turned out the Bridgwater lads put on a feisty performance which bore no resemblance to how they played at their previous encounter. For much of the time in the first half the scores remained tied at nil – nil due, largely to some fine defensive play from both sides. However in the end, intense pressure paid off and Taunton touched down in the corner. The try was unconverted.

A welcome from the Youth Section Chairman

tomdavies It is with a great sense of pride and privilege that I pen a brief introduction to our Welcome Pack for the rugby season 2007-8. We have a great opportunity to encourage and nurture young players at our club throughout the age groups and I am also delighted that we have such a team of hard-working, talented group of coaches, helpers and managers to get the best from the youngsters.

U12 Roundup

Junior Rugby (6/4/09) - Match reports by Bev Fournier d'Albe

Bridgwater and Albion U12’s travelled to Minehead on the 8th of March and produced a solid performance in winning by seven tries to nil. The first of these came from Glen Serafica, taking the ball at pace from a switch move with Tom Fournier. A few minutes later full back Lewis Plece was on hand to finish off another break from Serafica. Scrum half Charlie Dean was next on the score sheet breaking blind from a scrum close to Minehead’s line.Inevitably Serafica made another bullocking run to score before halftime. Conversions were dispensed with as Albion were so on top.

The second half continued in the same vein with Bridgwater dominant in most phases of the game. George Konstam, making his debut, cut in from his wing to touch down for Bridgwater’s fifth, Senna Saunders ran in a fine solo try and Serafica got his hat trick to finish off a convincing win. Minehead scored a consolation try to make the final score 35-5.
