Interview by Richard Walsh
Local boy Dave Hallaran is one of the success stories at Bridgwater this season and after starting off playing for the Development XV, he has now taken his chance to step up to the first team.
The 26 year old spoke recently about how he feels about being given his opportunity to play National League rugby.
He said: “I am very pleased to be in the start line up for the first team and I feel very proud to be running out onto the field wearing a Bridgwater shirt. Bridgy up for the Cup! (22/11/08)
Havant RFC
Interview by Richard Walsh
This Saturday, Bridgwater and Albion take a break from National League action when they
entertain Havant in the second round of the EDF National Trophy.
Over the years ‘Bridgy’ have enjoyed considerable success in the competition and chairman Steve Smith underlined just how important the competition is to club.He said: “The EDF Trophy is a very important competition to us and we are always looking to do as well as we can in it. More games, especially if they are at home means more for the fans to watch and also more revenue.”
Steve went on: “The cup also gives us a chance to play some of the
development squad players, who might not get their chance in the first
team league games, especially this week when it is likely there will be
one or two regulars missing after last weeks tough game at Dings.”

TewkesTalk 19/11/08
A few words by Bridgwater & Albion Head Coach Mike Tewkesbury.
TewkesTalk is normally only available to Registered Users of the website. |

Having had a few days to reflect upon last Saturday’s league defeat at Dings Crusaders in Bristol, Mike Tewkesbury the Bridgwater and Albion director of rugby said: “The match at Dings was really intense and having looked at the DVD it was very much an evenly balanced affair. We pulled away in the second half and at that stage we should have shut the game down, but we failed to do that.”
“This was not because of our decision-making, or our rugby playing but in terms of our discipline because that lost us the game and there is no doubt about that.In the first half they got three scores from our ill discipline for which there was no need whatsoever, so we have to ask ourselves whether we can afford to go down the road where we just give penalties away ad lib.”
‘Tewkes’ went on: “I think we have to be a bit more hard-headed and a lot more controlled in what we do and when we do it. A lot of the penalties are for minor tactical offences but we will get no change out of the referee so it is best not to do it. If you are not doing it then he can’t pick you up on it.”

Dings Crusaders 33 - 24 B&A RFC (15/11/08)
Match Report by Tony Pomeroy
Bridgwater were the better side for much of this enthralling game at Lockleaze but were cruelly beaten at the death as Dings scored 14 points in injury time to snatch victory and even deny Bridgwater a losing bonus point.
Conditions were grey and damp throughout the game but the passion showed by both sides brightened the day. Play was delayed shortly after the start whilst a little doggie deposit had to be cleared from the pitch.
Much of the game was an attritional forward battle in which Bridgwater gave as good as they received. For Dings, Mike Panaho led from the front in the forward exchanges whilst fly half Adam Westall kicked away most of the ball he received.
For Bridgwater, Danny Hodge won a lot of line-out ball but occasionally his ‘off the top’ delivery caused problems for scrum half Dave Hallaran as he received ‘man and ball’ as Dings forwards poured through gaps in the line out. The backs all looked sharp, none more so than Mike Mangeolles and Alex Lloyd, and Tito Elisara produced a number of crunching tackles. Luke Cozens ran and kicked well.

Captains Log...(9/11/08)
Interview by Richard Walsh
Bridgwater and Albion captain Ben Purcell was clearly delighted with the way that the team had played in their 38-12 win over Canterbury at Bath Road on Saturday.
Immediately after walking off the pitch Ben said: “I am very please with that performance. You really can’t ask for a better start than what we had and to score in the first play of the game was just fantastic.”
“What was good though was that we didn’t do our normal thing of sitting back and relaxing, we followed it up with another try and we had effectively finished the game of in the first 20 minutes.”
Ben went on: “Then it is always tricky when you get that far ahead because teams are always going to try to come back and give a bit of a fight, however we held out well.”

Dirt-trackers 39 - 3 Somerton (8/11/08)
Match report by Mike Berry
Dirt-trackers dig deep to overcome game Somerton
The Dirt-Trackers were forced in to several team and positional changes on Saturday. Inspirational skipper Dave Norman was ruled out after an injury in training in midweek and of the longer term injured, Hobbs and Tracey were still stood down, although the former was forced to reappear in the second half. The absence of Norman meant that Field came in as hooker with Triggol reverting to the back row. From there Stuckes played at outside centre.
Albion was expecting a sterner test than they have had in recent weeks with Somerton’s big pack likely to cause some difficulties. However they did not expect to take more than twenty minutes to wear down the opposition during which time they trailed through a second minute penalty goal by Somerton. That that was the visitors’ only score was a commendable comment upon Albion’s defensive qualities. Somerton drove into Albion’s half from the start and kicked their penalty and immediately returned to the attack and whilst they buzzed around the 22 there was rarely any likelihood of a breakthrough.

The cost is between £10 & £15 per seat depending on venue and number of people on the coach.
One supporter said 'We have a great time on the coach, some of the longer journeys appear shorter by the fun we have and the characters we get on the coach'. So why don't you come along and enjoy the great atmosphere created at our games both home and away.
To reserve your seat contact Frank Taylor on 01278 427318 or Julie Allen on 01278 691055.
